Supporting Ummeed Financial Support Ummeed is a non-profit organization with an explicit goal of helping all children with developmental disabilities, irrespective of financial considerations. Over 40% of the patient sessions are with children from economically under privileged families and these families pay a much lower service fee to Ummeed, in fact, in most cases, just at token amount to ensure their commitment. Ummeed also supports other organizations in building awareness, advocacy and training professionals. This support is not paid for and the cost is picked up by Ummeed. Ummeed also invests in training its professionals. We do get some funding from some organizations (like a seed grant from the Sir Dorabjee Tata Trust) and individual contributions, but this only covers 20% of the operating loss. As we are planning to significantly expand our operations to serve a larger number of children, do more research, provide more support to other organizations in the areas of awareness building, advocacy and training of professionals, and start an information platform and an early intervention center, we are going to need funding. The estimated deficit in the next four calendar years is Rs 33,00,000 (US $ 73,000) in 2004, Rs 65,00,000(US $ 144,000) in 2005, Rs 87,00,000 (US $ 193,000) in 2006 and Rs 1,13,00,000 (US $ 250,000) in 2007.
